A Moment's Pause

Where were you?
When my dot was the only green?
You were a yellow among the faded pinks

Some were away for less than hour,
but you,
you were away for a day!

The long silence
Since your fingers walked
the keyboard

Since your mind
reached out
across the ether to touch another.

Or, perhaps,
by cell or text or tweet
you chose less obvious presence,
hiding among the electrons
of other channels.

But, I,
tied here by duty and honor
with strings of financial dependence,
tapped out my rhythm of mind's blood,
solving some problem
of your making.
